Kelvin Jute Mill was founded by Sir Charles McLeod in 1907. It was a part of the McLeod Group which owned and managed 10 Jute Mills, 16 Tea Companies, and Light Railways. The mill was operating with 600 looms during 1917 and a 2 feet 6 inch/762 mm Narrow Gauge (NG) train operated within the mill premises for materials movement.
The Mill has more than 2800 employees. Post modernization in 2018 and 2019, the spinning production capacity has increased to 110 metric tons per day. A variety of high quality jute yarn, fabrics and bags are manufactured in-house. Our ability to track defects to the point of origin using quality control procedures and process control coupled with intensive information technology has enabled us to meet customer requirements at all times.
Kelvin Jute Ltd. is owned and operated by the Kankaria Group, a Kolkata-based business conglomerate, founded in 1941 by Shri Harakh Chand Kankaria. The company is professionally managed by an independent and professional Board of Directors.
